I so often see QR codes plonked onto adverts without explainaton, this tells me 2 things, either:
- They don’t understand what they are or how to use them and have been told to add them
- It was an after thought and not part of the strategy
Either way, it does not bode well for the advertiser.
QR Codes are great engagement tool IF THEY ARE USED. Although we are used to them as marketers, consumers are still by and large unaware about what they are and how to use them.
Revlon have done a great job here by adding the text: “Download the QR Reader App on your smartphone & scan this tag to learn more about REVLON ColorStay 16-Hour Eyeshadow”.
The customer now knows what they need to do and will engage.

NOTE: We must understand the customer and guide them through the communication process.
